Dave- First Week
Dave has been with us since last Thursday. My first impression of Dave was that he was greeting me with the legendary greyhound helicopter wagging when I came home from work. We are happy to report that he is doing very well and his personality is starting to show. We learn something new about him everyday. Dave is a VERY sweet and happy go lucky guy. He is very curious about his new surroundings and as you may know as a dog owner ( if you are) curiosity can bring troubles. He was checking out our xmas tree, my nail polisher, the clicker, new toys...etc. Fortunately, Dave is eager to please and response very well to our firm " huh-huh" or " NO!" corrections. He is still learning the ropes of being in a home but he follows the rules and is learning what's acceptable and what's not. And...he is still very laid back with a young age of 2. He is not "in-your-face" dog and enjoys resting next to you watching TV at night . All in all, we can confidently say that Dave's new family is going to be showered with his sweetness.
Regarding housebreaking, I am happy to report that he has not had any accident for the consecutive 3 days now ( Today is his fourth day with us) Greyhounds usually come to your family crate-trained. We borrowed a crate from Greyhound Rescue Inc and leave Dave in the crate when unsupervised. Living in a townhouse means having to take your dogs out everytime. Dave has learned that the little island outside of the house is a place to relieve himself and whenever he relieves himself there, he receives praises and treats!
In addition, we are still working on Dave's walking on leash with the help of a gentle leader. He is a big boy and is just very excited about the new sounds, the new smells and the new sights. For Dave's new family, I will suggest a harness like the Wiggles, Wags and Whiskers No-Pull Harness. We can see that Gentle leader is really helping out with the leash training. So we are confident that he will walk very nicely with time and training.
So, are you looking for a big goofy boy who just love people, is eager to please and will shower you with endless love? Please contact Denise at Greyhound Rescue, Inc.
